The Olympica Fossae are a complex array of deep troughs, channels and streamlined landforms in northern Tharsis.

These features were formed by a combination of the interactions of water, mud, and lava.

This picture covers an area 1.1 km wide by 2.3 km long. It is a photo of the Sirenum Fossae. ( Map of Mars )

The wide line running diagonally across this photo from upper right toward lower left are the Sirenum Fossae troughs.

The Olympica Fossae are a collection of troughs and depressions located in northern Tharsis ( map of Mars ) , south of the Alba Patera volcano. (Patera means shallow crater)

This photograph of the Olympica Fossae area has examples of layered outcrops in canyon walls, evenly-spaced dunes on the canyon floors, dark landslide streaks on the canyon walls, pits formed by ground collapse, and streamlined forms related to the flow of water, mud, or lava.

This photograph covers an area of 3.0 by 4.7 kilometers.

Volcanic and tectonic (caused by the movement of the earth's crust) activity resulted in the formation of these radial grabens of Memnonia Fossae. These grabens cuts across these cratered highlands and lava flows. This enhanced color version reveals a diversity of subtle color variations. These color variations may be due to different lava flow units and variable amounts of weathering, possible alteration by water.

This photo covers an area 206 kilometers wide.

Volcanic and tectonic (caused by the movement of the earth's crust) activity resulted in the formation of these radial grabens of Memnonia Fossae. These grabens cuts across these cratered highlands and lava flows. This natural color version shows albedo variations and uniform colors.
